The University of Rwanda (UR) is Rwanda's largest and most comprehensive public institution of higher education, established in 2013 through the merger of several higher education institutions in the country. The university aims to foster a knowledge-based society and addresses critical national and regional needs through its broad range of programs, strong emphasis on research, and partnership-building initiatives. UR’s mission aligns with Rwanda’s Vision 2050, which focuses on sustainable economic growth, socio-economic transformation, and poverty reduction. UR consists of six colleges, each specializing in different fields, including Agriculture, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine; Arts and Social Sciences; Business and Economics; Education; Medicine and Health Sciences; Science and Technology. These colleges offer a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs designed to address Rwanda's development priorities, from agriculture and health to technology and engineering. The university is also known for its partnerships with international institutions, offering students exchange opportunities, joint research projects, and access to resources from around the world. UR has several campuses across Rwanda, with the main administrative campus in Kigali. Its research initiatives, particularly in fields like agriculture, health, and technology, make it an important center for development-focused innovation in East Africa.
